Association Burkinabè de Fundraising

"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".

Area(s) of interest

This programme has been developed in close collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film. Ten projects in development (1st or 2nd feature film) are selected and invited to Cannes. The aim is to create concrete opportunities for these projects by providing access to a range of activities and personalised support through individual and group meetings with key players in the film industry.

The call for entries is international and limited to 110 projects, which are examined by a selection committee made up of professionals from the sector (scriptwriters, directors, editors, consultants, programmers, members of committees and national and international cultural and/or cinematographic institutions). In addition to the selection made as part of the call for applications, the selection committee reserves the right to choose projects within the framework of partnerships and/or from among former participants who have applied. They will be identified as such.

The programme will take place in person during the Cannes Film Festival and part of the programme will be held online from mid-April. The local director and producer of the selected project will stay in Cannes for 7 to 10 days.

Participants will benefit from a wide-ranging programme and personalised support. The programme is designed to help projects and their financing move forward, with individual and group meetings with the industry, in partnership with the Cannes Festival and parallel sections. It also includes a rich exchange with the French Institute's La Fabrique Cinéma sponsor, as well as a schedule of meetings with French and international producers for their projects.

Selection criteria
  • The project must be a cinematographic work (fiction, documentary or animation). It cannot be a project or a film for television.
  • The project must be a first or second feature film in development (fiction, documentary or animation)
  • The director must be from the list of eligible countries (national of the country or living and working in the country for more than 5 years).
  • The producer must be from one of the eligible countries (national of the country or living and working in the country for more than 5 years) and have already produced a short film or feature film in the last five years.
  • The producer must own a production company.
  • The film's budget must be less than €3 million.
  • Each director and producer may submit only one project.
  • The La Fabrique Cinéma programme encourages the search for French, European and international co-producers. You do not need to already have a co-producer to apply.
  • Projects that already have co-producers may also be submitted. If co-producers are associated with the project, they must be mentioned in the online form when applying.
  • If co-producers are associated with the project after the application has been submitted, applicants must inform the Institut Français. Any project selected that does not comply with this rule may have its selection questioned.
  • The director is accompanied by the project's local producer.
  • Co-producers must have signed a co-production agreement or memorandum of understanding to be considered as such. They are not supported and are not invited to take part in the programme.
  • Due to the international nature of the Cannes Film Market, many meetings and events are held in English. It is imperative that the director and producer speak English.
  • The selection committee will pay particular attention to gender parity in the selection of La Fabrique Cinéma participants.
