Call for expressions of interest: Africa-Europe Foundation Scholarship Programme

The Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) is launching an awards programme aimed at youth organisations, cities/local authorities and civil society partners working across Africa and Europe.

The 2024 Awards programme is being launched against a backdrop of renewed demand for partnership between local youth organisations across Africa and Europe.

The AEF invites youth-led organisations, cities/local authorities, think tanks, civil society platforms and NGOs that inspire, empower and connect local actors in the youth through dialogue to help shape a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between Africa and Europe to address contemporary challenges, to take part in this year's programme.

The aim of the call is to provide a platform for youth organisations and local players to engage in dialogue and action on the central themes and analysis of the report, the link between climate change and youth, and the role of youth in society. climate and economic development to "sustainable finance" and "education, culture and science". Applicants must propose in their application the type of action/micro-projects they wish to implement.

Priorities
  • AEF invites youth organisations to explore 3 priority chapters of the Report in greater depth through the projects they propose:
    • Climate and development.
    • Science, education and culture.
    • Sustainable finance.
Reward programme prizes
  • The programme is divided into two "packages":
    • Local impact award (lot 1) :
      • The Local Impact Awards support initiatives developed and implemented in one of the Member States of the African Union or the European Union.
      • Examples of "local initiatives" include town hall-style debates, expert meetings for young people, podcast interview series, community projects and so on.
      • The "local initiatives" are expected to have a short timetable for implementation, running from start to finish between July 2024 and October 2025. It is expected that most of the projects awarded will be of short duration, from a few days to a few weeks' implementation.
      • The beneficiaries The direct beneficiaries of "local initiatives" should include local communities focusing on local youth. Indirect beneficiaries are citizens of Africa and Europe.
    • Inter-network prices (lot 2) :
      • Transcontinental initiatives should be implemented on the basis of work between the two continents with the participation of at least two Member States, one from the AU and one from the EU.
      • Examples of transcontinental initiatives include hackathons for young people, dialogues, gatherings, creative collaborative projects and so on.
      • The initiatives transcontinental are expected to have a short timeframe for implementation, from start to finish, between July 2024 and October 2025. It is expected that most awards will be focused on projects with a limited number of weeks for implementation.
      • The direct beneficiaries of "transcontinental projects" should include local and international communities focused on youth. Indirect beneficiaries are the citizens of Africa and Europe.
Information on funding
  • The initial overall budget for this call is €150,000.00, with individual prizes of up to €5,000.00 or a maximum of €10,000.00.
Eligibility criteria
  • The call is aimed at a variety of youth organisations registered in one of the AU or EU Member States.
  • For lot 1, eligible organisations include grassroots youth organisations, local youth networks, organisations and associations of young people. associations regional and international youth organisations working at local community level, civil society platforms, NGOs, local authorities, municipal councils and departments and local community associations.
  • For Lot 2, eligible organisations are national, regional and international youth organisations and associations, as well as civil society platforms, NGOs and local authority platforms working across Africa and the EU and focusing on youth engagement and dialogue.
