The Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) wants to hear students' views on how they feel they could be better supported to succeed in the green jobs market. Students are invited to approach the topic in any way they wish. They are strongly encouraged to include their own personal views, perspectives and experiences to help bring their thoughts and visions to life.

Awards

One grand prize winner will receive a free international trip to a TSL Summit, including £500 spending money. The top 10 essay medallists will receive eco-friendly electronic medals with redeemable gift tokens. All participating teacher champions, essay finalists and honourable mentions, as well as participants in the international debate, will receive personalised electronic certificates.

Criteria

The international student essay competition is open to students from all over the world.

The length of the test varies according to age as follows:

  • Primary school pupils (aged 7-11): 400 words
  • Secondary school and college students (aged 12 to 18): 600 words
  • All work must be original and student-owned. A bibliography of references should be included where appropriate and will not be counted towards the official word limit. Essays with plagiarised content will not be considered for a prize.
  • Judges look for originality and creativity in all formats - and the potential to contribute to a constructive national or international debate. Unique and well-argued perspectives score well.
