The European University Institute is calling for applications for Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowships to provide a framework for established academics of international repute to pursue their research at the EUI.

The scholarships Fellowships last up to ten months in one of the four UIE departments, which in turn invite the fellows to take part in the department's activities (seminars, workshops, colloquia, etc.).
During their residence to UIE, are encouraged to get in touch with researchers sharing their academic interests, may be involved in teaching and supervising the theses of UIE professors, and associated with one of the research projects carried out at UIE.
Information on funding
- The monthly grant is €3,000. The grant for successful applicants whose usual place of residence is within a 90 km radius of Florence will be set at a lower rate.
Terms and conditions
- Duration and residence
- The scholarship lasts up to 10 months. Applicants must indicate their intended length of stay in the application, but the host department may offer a different and/or shorter period to the successful applicant, subject to the availability of funds. Scholarships are not normally awarded for the months of July and August.
- Scholarship holders must live in Florence for the duration of the scholarship so that they can take an active part in the academic activities of their department.
- Medical insurance
- Scholarship holders must have adequate medical insurance cover during their stay at the Institute. They may either provide their own insurance or join the UIE's private health insurance scheme at their own expense.
- Travel and removal/installation costs
- There is no provision for travel expenses. There is no provision for dismantling or reassembly costs. installation.
Eligibility criteria
- The scholarships are open to established academics of international reputation. Former UIE professors or fellows are eligible after three years have elapsed since their last contract with UIE.
- Candidates from all nationalities are eligible.
- Fellows must have a good knowledge of English and any other language relevant to the proposed research.
