Nominations for the World Food Prize are now open to advance human development with a demonstrable increase in the quantity, quality, availability or access to food through creative interventions at any point in the food system.

Price information
  • The World Prize for food is a prize of $250,000 officially awarded at the prize-giving ceremony for the winners in mid-October, on or around World Food Day.
Eligibility criteria
  • Any institution universityany private or public organisation or government unit may submit a nomination for the Prize. global of food.
  • Such an entity may submit as many applications as it deems appropriate.
  • All applications are confidential, and the identity of the nominators and the nominating organisation is strictly confidential.
  • Individuals can nominate candidates, but they must be approved by and submitted through an educational institution, a private or public organisation or a government unit.
  • Unsolicited applications will not be considered.
Nomination criteria
  • It must be demonstrated that this exceptionally important achievement has resulted in a demonstrable increase in the quantity, quality, availability or access to food for a large number of people.
  • The impact of this achievement must be measurable, quantifiable or otherwise demonstrated, whether in terms of a reduction in povertyor improved health, nutrition, quality of life and well-being.
  • It must be clearly demonstrated that this increase in food safety is the direct result of the applicant's specific actions and activities; i.e. without their specific achievement, no change would have occurred.
  • A candidate must be alive and healthy enough to attend the World Food Prize award ceremony.
  • The Prize is intended to be awarded to a single person. In exceptional circumstances where one or more additional people have collaborated in an indispensable way, more than one person may be included in the nomination.
