A generous grant from the Mouhoun Water Agency, financed by DANIDA. Contributing to a Sustainable Future: Project of the Association Jeunesse et Entrepreneuriat (Youth and Entrepreneurship Association)

At a time when environmental issues are of growing concern, it is essential to act decisively to preserve our precious natural resources. With this in mind, the Association Jeunesse et Entrepreneuriat is actively involved in an innovative project aimed at strengthening the climate change adaptation skills of young people in the Kou sub-basin. The primary aim of the project is to restore ecological balance by reversing the trend towards degradation of water resources and reducing the conflicts associated with their use in the region.

To achieve this, a specific approach has been developed, particularly with regard to reducing agro-pastoral pressure. One of the key actions is to set up an integrated agroforestry development covering an area of 4 hectares. The aim of the project is to relieve pressure on the banks of the Kou and the feeder canal to the rice-growing plain of Bama. It will directly benefit 80 people, thereby contributing to more sustainable management of natural resources. At the same time, particular attention is being paid to steering and closely monitoring the project. The association will ensure meticulous monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the actions put in place meet the objectives defined, with a view to continually adjusting the strategies if necessary.

The implementation of this project should produce tangible results, particularly in terms of reducing agropastoral pressure. Thanks to integrated agroforestry management, the pressure on water resources in the region will be significantly reduced, which will help to preserve the environment and reduce land conflicts. At the same time, the association will ensure the effective management of the project through regular monitoring and evaluation, thereby guaranteeing its long-term viability and maximising the impact of the investments made.

The total cost of the project is 43,225,910 francs, with a personal contribution of 1,770,910 francs from the association. A generous grant of 41,455,000 francs from the Mouhoun Water Agency has also been allocated to support this crucial initiative. The project is scheduled to last 10 months, during which time significant progress will be made in preserving water resources in the commune of Bama.

Over and above the financial aspects, this project will have a profound impact on the lives of the people living in the region. By actively involving young people in preserving their environment, the association is paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future. Through an approach rooted in local communities, this project illustrates the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling today's environmental challenges.

Together, we can build a world where preserving our planet is a shared priority, and where every individual, young or old, plays a crucial role in building a better future.
