"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".

Priority area(s) of interest

The objective of the United Nations Trust Fund is "to ensure that more women and girls, especially the most marginalized and those who experience intersecting forms of discrimination, can exercise their fundamental right to live a life free from all forms of violence" through initiatives that :

  • Improve women's and girls' access to essential, specialised, safe and appropriate multi-sectoral services
  • Improving the prevention of violence against women by changing behaviour, practices and attitudes
  • Increase the effectiveness of legislation, policies, national action plans and accountability systems to prevent and end violence against women and violence against women.
Priorities
  • Priority will be given to applications from the following types of organisation:
    • Women's rights organisations (WROs), fully aware that they are the driving force behind the programme to combat violence against women and feminist movements, and that they are at the forefront of EVAW/G's work, directly reaching women and girl survivors and those most at risk of exclusion and marginalisation.
    • CSOs/RBOs led by and for marginalised women and girls (e.g. constituency-led), with specialist knowledge, expertise and proven experience of working with women and girls facing or at risk of violence, particularly survivor-led organisations. Girl-led and girl-focused organisations are also particularly encouraged to apply.
    • CSOs/RROs with local or community reach that are best placed to address the needs of women and girls in their contexts, including through collaboration and equitable partnerships. Applications from organisations that are not local (but meet other criteria) are still welcome if the proposal includes equitable partnership with local women's rights organisations or constituency-led groups for greater impact or community reach. The proposal must demonstrate how the partnership will ensure an equitable balance of power that empowers community / local groups and CSOs / WROs.
Information on funding
  • All civil society organisations can apply for a grant of between USD 150,001 and USD 1,000,000.
Results
  • Within this overall framework, the UN Trust Fund welcomes proposals for initiatives that contribute to one or more of its three strategic result areas:
    • Improved access for women and girls to essential, specialised, safe and appropriate multi-sectoral services
    • Improved prevention of violence against women through changes in behaviour, practices and attitudes
    • More effective legislation, policies, national action plans and accountability systems to prevent and end violence against women and girls.
