Capacity Building Initiative (UNICEF). The UNICEF Data Centre of Excellence for Children with Disabilities is launching a call for proposals for a capacity-building initiative to promote the use of data and the generation of evidence for children with disabilities. knowledge about the condition of disabled children.
The Centre will help to fill data gaps and meet the growing need for coordination, quality monitoring and technical expertise in the field. It will support a wide range of activities to build the capacity of data producers and data users, facilitate the development of new methods and tools, and support data collection, data analysis, data interpretation and use, and knowledge generation.
The Centre will fund five projects that build capacity to generate and/or use data on disabled children. Projects may involve the design and delivery of capacity building opportunities or the development of training materials, or other activities to help individuals and organisations develop their capacity to generate and use data.
Information on financing
Each successful candidate will receive a total of USD 9,000 for a period of nine months.
Result: At the end of the nine months, recipients should complete the project as agreed at the time of selection. Any training materials or manuals developed as part of a project must be available in English as well as in all local languages applicable to the project.
Eligibility criteria capacity building initiative
- This call for proposals is open to individuals of all nationalities wishing to support organizations and individuals in building their capacity to generate and use data. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to complete the proposed project within nine months.
- At the very least, a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to data science, statistics, disability studies or another related field is required.
- Applications from qualified candidates from low- and middle-income countries and/or who self-identify as having a disability are encouraged.
Conditions capacity building initiative
- Applicants must be prepared to commit to a nine-month project and must be hosted by another institution or working independently. In situations where applicants are hosted by institutions or organisations, applicants are required to submit a letter of commitment from their institution/organisation attesting to their skills and commitment.
- Candidates should have a combination of the following skills and experience:
- At least a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to data science, statistics, disability studies, public policy or another related field.
- A good understanding of statistical theory and its application to practical policy
- Knowledge of the challenges surrounding the ability of organisations and individuals to generate and make effective use of data relating to children's disabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas to non-specialists
- Demonstrated interest and experience in domain children's rights, studies and/or data on disability
- Ability to work independently and to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to think creatively about the collection, analysis, dissemination and implications of data on children's disability and to develop a unique project
- Willingness to learn and accept advice
- Previous experience of working with disabled people is desirable.
