Changing the narrative of migration. Are you a journalist or media professional working on refugee issues or would you like to-?Do you want to do it? If so, then apply for the Changing the narrative on migration programme.
Changing the narrative aims to strengthen and broaden comprehensive and accurate media coverage of migration and asylum by building skills, networking and knowledge of migration realities for journalists in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
WACC Europe, in cooperation with WACC's regional associations in Africa and the Middle East, will provide a networking and exposure programme for up to 12 journalists, focusing on developing in-depth reporting skills and contacts. The project is supported by the Otto per Mille Foundation (OPM) of the Waldensian Church in Italy.
With nearly 80 million people forcibly displaced around the world, and anti-migrant rhetoric and hate speech on the rise, it is imperative to build capacity to report ethically and accurately on refugee and migration issues. They are pleased to send you this call for participants for the next Changing the Narrative project. The training programme will bring together a group of 12 journalists and media professionals from across Africa, Europe and the Middle East to develop skills and abilities to report on refugee issues.
The programme will help to strengthen media coverage of migration and refugee issues by building skills, networking, sharing experiences and learning from experts in the field. The training will take place online in January; site visits and other exposure activities may be planned depending on pandemic restrictions.
Eligibility criteria Changing the migration narrative
Changing the narrative is an interregional training programme for journalists and media professionals working on refugee and migration issues in their local contexts. The programme is also suitable for those who do not have direct experience in these subjects, but who are committed to developing their skills and contributing to journalism in this area. The professional development and networking opportunity will bring together a group of 12 journalists and media professionals from three geographical regions (Africa, Europe and the Middle East), to train with a select group of experts in humanitarian issues, photojournalism, ethics, politics, and more. Professional level English is an asset; however, interpretation during live sessions and translation of key training material into French and Arabic can be .
