Call for applications: Residency programme for groups of international artists

The Spreepark Art Space residency programme invites international groups of artists to explore the link between art and the surrounding landscape.

The aim of the programme is to create a lasting link between art and nature for a varied audience. They would therefore like to welcome a collective diversified which explores these subjects and is made up of visual artists and members of non-art disciplines. They are particularly interested in the fields of planning and urban development, architecture, urban planning and all ecological disciplines.

Interdisciplinary collectives and groups of artists based on specific projects who do not yet live or work in Berlin are invited to apply for a three-month residency at the Eierhäuschen, a recently renovated historic site. An inspiring space for artistic reflection and action, in which enduring hospitality and a sense of community are central. community are essential.

The Eierhäuschen is located in the middle of an unspoilt landscape, right next to the former Spreepark amusement park. With the complete overhaul of the Spreepark into a new public park, visitors are invited to reflect and experiment.

Spreepark Art Space offers artists the space to explore the link between art and the surrounding landscape. The unique backdrop of the former Spreepark amusement park takes centre stage, offering artists the opportunity to engage with this place of change and transformation. As well as a wide range of interactive events and educational opportunities, we enable residents to discover and explore the connection between people and nature, art and the environment, landscape and architecture.

Residency benefits
  • Spreepark Art Space offers four fixed residency periods in 2025, during which a stay of around 3 months is available free of charge.
  • The residency at Spreepark Art Space fosters a shared creative environment and an open exchange of ideas by hosting groups of artists and collectives of up to four people.
  • Four multi-purpose rooms offer individual freedom to live and work, ranging from 35 to 50 square metres. One of the units is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
  • A spacious and accessible communal kitchen of around 100 square metres encourages social interaction between residents so that they can prepare meals in a homely environment.
  • Residents can use the Spreepark art space team's accessible workspace, which covers around 150 square metres.
  • Up to four participants receive a lump sum of 3,600 euros net for the entire period of residency to cover living expenses on site.

Eligibility criteria
  • Originality: They are looking for projects with new and unique ideas that have never existed in this form or combination before. An innovative approach can inspire other developments.
  • Interdisciplinarity : Projects should integrate different disciplines, including those that go beyond art. For example, where art meets ecology, planning meets philosophy, or literature meets architecture.
  • Site specificity : Projects must make creative use of the unique characteristics and rules of the Spreepark. Embracing the site's specific characteristics is crucial.
  • Engagement: They welcome projects that demonstrate active and intensive engagement with the Spreepark. Pre-planned concepts must be adaptable to the realities of the site.
  • Contemporary: Projects must address current themes and challenges, engaging with contemporary knowledge and context.
  • Prerequisite knowledge : It is hoped that the group will bring practical and theoretical expertise in urban planning and artistic research to work effectively during the three-month residency period.
Selection criteria
  • The final selection of residents is made by an international curatorial committee that meets once a year after the call closes.
  • Selection for 2024 is complete. The next selection session to select residents for 2025 will take place in autumn 2024.
