La Conservation Nation believes that there is great progress to be made in conservation by broadening the scope of committed people working to meet the global challenge of conserving the wildlife.
Conservation Nation supports innovative on-the-ground conservation worldwide by practitioners from under-represented communities. The focus is on promoting conservation solutions that meet the needs of nature and people in terrestrial, marine or freshwater ecosystems that support a wide range of biodiversity.

Information on funding
- The defenders of the environment are eligible for funding of up to $2,500 for a one-year grant period.
The grant will finance
- Funding can be used to support the conservationist in one or more of the following areas:
- Equipment and/or supplies.
- Travel for research or conservation purposes. Funds may cover incidental costs, meals and expenses.
- Awareness-raising materials.
- Publication of an article.
- Conference fees and incidental expenses.
- Professional development.
- Research activities.
- Stipends or honoraria for speakers or guest speakers.
- Dependent care assistance for a minor (child) or dependent adult for whom you are responsible.
- A unique need (please explain).
The grant will not finance
- Activities not supported or of strictly personal interest.
- Work or collaboration teams focusing on subjects unrelated to conservation.
- Cash donations to conservation organisations or third parties.
- Lobbying activities or support for attempts to influence legislation.
Eligibility criteria
- Early to mid-career conservationists (up to 10 years).
- Environmentalists from under-represented communities.
- Individual ecologists actively working on wildlife conservation projects.
- Full-time conservation professionals working in a conservation NGO.
- Graduate and postgraduate students engaged in conservation studies. (Students must provide the name and e-mail address of their programme director).
- They encourage wildlife conservationists working in (but not limited to) the following biodiversity hotspots to apply:
- California Floristic Province
- North American coastal plain
- Mountains of Central Asia
- Guinean forests of West Africa
- Atlantic forest
- South West Australia
- This grant is intended for individuals. The application must be completed and submitted by the grant applicant.
