15th Edition of Young Talents Program in sub-Saharan Africa

The L'Oréal-UNESCO sub-Saharan Africa regional programme For Women in Science aims to promote and encourage the participation of young African women in science.

This programme identifies and rewards talented young researchers in the formal sciences, life and environmental sciences, materials sciences, engineering sciences and technological sciences.

For this 15th edition, 30 prizes will be awarded to encourage young researchers currently studying for a doctorate or post-doctorate to pursue a brilliant scientific career.

  • 25 grants of €10,000 each will be awarded to 25 doctoral students enrolled in a doctoral school and research laboratory in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • 5 grants of €15,000 each will be awarded to 5 post-doctoral students working in a laboratory or research institute in sub-Saharan Africa.

Collaborative actions by young talent
  • Researchers undertake to :
    • To continue the research work for which the Young African Talent Prize Sub-Saharan L'OréalUNESCO For Women and Science has been obtained.
    • Carry out the expenditure detailed in the provisional budget in the application file.
    • Write a report on the research work, the subject of the endowment, to be submitted to the L'Oréal Foundation in the year following the award of the Prize.
    • Take part in the "Management and Leadership" training course and the awards ceremony to be held in an African capital, probably in November 2024.
  • Participation in these events is compulsory, and transport and accommodation costs for beneficiaries from all the countries represented will be covered by the L'Oréal Foundation.
Eligibility criteria
  • For doctoral students
    • Be a national of one of the 48 countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
    • And be enrolled in a doctoral school and carry out your doctorate in a research laboratory in one of the 49 countries in the region (including South Africa).
    • Be a national of one of the 49 countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa region (including South Africa).
    • Be enrolled in a doctoral school and carry out your doctorate in a research laboratory in one of the 48 countries of sub-Saharan Africa.
      • Note: Consequently, applicants from South Africa carrying out their research in South Africa are not eligible for this programme.
    • Conduct research in one of the scientific fields.
    • First-year doctoral students are not eligible.
  • For post-doctoral students
    • Be a national of one of the 48 countries in the Africa region Sub-Saharan.
    • And be enrolled as a post-doctoral student in a research laboratory or institution in one of the 49 countries in the region (including South Africa).
    • Be a national of one of the 49 countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa region (including South Africa).
    • And be enrolled as a post-doctoral student in a research laboratory or institution in one of the 48 countries of sub-Saharan Africa.
      • Note: Consequently, applicants from South Africa carrying out their research in South Africa are not eligible for this programme.
    • Have obtained a doctorate in one of the scientific fields.
    • Have defended their thesis after February 2019. If the postdoctoral fellow has one or more children, this deadline is brought forward by one year for each child.
    • Conduct research in one of the scientific fields and have started their post-doctorate before 01/02/2024, the opening date of the call for applications.
  • Note: Candidates who have already been supported by one of L'Oréal UNESCO's national or regional For Women in Science programmes are not eligible.
