"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".

Main areas of interest

The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched the WFP Call for Applications in search of revolutionary ideas to build stronger and more sustainable food systems, tackling the root causes of hunger and galvanising international cooperation on food security.

This year's campaign challenges them to rethink food systems in innovative ways. They are looking for disruptive innovations to tackle hunger in areas such as resilience to shocks and stress; access to safe and nutritious food; and promoting equitable livelihoods for all.

MAP 2022 innovation priorities

The WFP's current innovation priorities are as follows:

  • Resilient food systems : Improving the resilience of food systems is essential to eradicating hunger. They seek solutions that enable communities to better resist and recover from the effects of conflict, natural hazards, climate change, pandemics, political instability and other shocks and stressors that have an impact on long-term food security.
  • Safe and nutritious food systems : To eliminate hunger and all forms of malnutrition, they need food systems that provide affordable and safe food for all. They are looking for solutions that increase the availability of nutritious food, making food more affordable and accessible.
  • Inclusive food systems : Building food systems where no one is left behind will bring them closer to a world free from hunger. They seek to support solutions that promote equitable livelihoods for all by empowering small-scale farmers and local producers and bringing food and income-generating activities to last-mile communities.
