The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge is the first global competition of its kind for social entrepreneurs who are advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and inspiring whole communities to take action to create the world they want by 2030.

The WE Empower Challenge celebrates innovative women leaders from around the world who are advancing the SDGs through sustainable business practices and inspiring others to follow suit. The opportunity recognises their innovative work and offers winners capacity-building training sessions and opportunities to connect with an unprecedented global network to drive their businesses forward. This programme elevates and showcases the valuable contribution that women entrepreneurs and business leaders can make to the SDGs and to solving the world's greatest challenges.

Objectives
  • Honour : Honouring innovative women entrepreneurs who are supporting and achieving the SDGs through sustainable business practices and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
  • Investing : Investing in the most inspiring and transformational women entrepreneurs - giving them access to seed capital, unique training, capacity building and a network of peers, visibility and credibility for their work.
  • Ignite : Raise awareness among a global community of stakeholders of the valuable contribution that women entrepreneurs can make to the SDGs and the obstacles they still face.
Information on financing

The winners will also take part in a dynamic pitch competition, organised by fashion designer, activist and Vital Voices board member Diane von Furstenberg, to pitch their business for a grant of 20,000 $.

Candidates must identify which of the following regions of the world they are in:

  • Europe and North America
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Asia-Pacific
  • Latin America and the Caribbean
Eligibility

You should:

  • be a woman entrepreneur with decision-making skills in a company or organisation
  • have been in business for more than three years
  • employ at least three full-time staff (or full-time equivalent)
  • have a business/organisation that generates at least USD 100,000 in annual sales or income
  • fluency in spoken and written English
  • be at least 21 years old
  • Be available to travel to New York, NY and participate in all events from Friday, September 17 to Saturday, September 25, 2021 (COVID-19 travel restrictions permitting) AND if necessary, I can participate in a virtual program from August to October 2021 .
