EVWA Changemakers is an annual campaign that recognises and gives a platform to outstanding Africans under the age of 30, who are leading projects that contribute to empowerment women farmers.

Through the EVWA Changemakers Campaign and the EVWA Council, the Ban Ki-moon Centre (BKMC) aims to highlight and galvanise action for the empowerment of women. farmers in Africa. Women account for almost half of the world's small-scale farmers. In Africa, they produce 70 % of the continent's food. Yet they are the most vulnerable members of the farming community, facing barriers to access to land, finance, education, etc., due to gender inequalities and climate change.

The EVWA Changemaker, head of the project the most innovative and inspiring, is announced and recognised as the EVWA Champion. They will publish this documentary on their channels as well as at key events such as COPs and more to highlight the EVWA Champion as an example of good practice.

What will you get?
  • The EVWA champion title comes with a funding start-up grant of USD 5,000 to extend the impact of this project.
  • The EVWA champion will also have the unique opportunity to be part of an exciting multimedia documentary production and social media campaign.
Eligible financing
  • The prize money should, ideally, be invested in scaling up or sustaining the EVWA Champion's project. However, they are confident that the EVWA Champion will know best what exactly the prize should be spent on. The grant should be seen as operational seed funding and no reporting is required.
Eligible projects
  • They are looking at projects of all sizes, whether implemented by a single person or by a team. They can be community volunteering projects, independent projects, NGO projects or entire start-ups dedicated to empowering women farmers. The list is long, and they are open to innovative approaches! Legal registration is not required to be considered a project. However, you should be able to back up the existence and validity of your project with links to websites, social media profiles, photos, videos, etc.
Eligibility criteria
  • Are you aged between 18 and 30?
  • Are you from an African country?
  • Do you have upper-intermediate level English skills?
  • Do you run a project that works directly with women farmers in Africa and empower them?
