Association Burkinabè de Fundraising

"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".

Interests

Are you a member of an organisation working to combat climate change or conserve biodiversity? Is your organisation registered in an ODA-eligible country and do you have an effective, innovative or creative non-profit project idea? Then the IKI Small Grants programme is now open!

The International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) funds projects dealing with climate change, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to climate change, conservation of natural carbon sinks / REDD+ and biodiversity conservation. The IKI's projects and programmes are of a comparable scale, calling for integrated project consortia approaches. Smaller organisations are involved in these projects, but more as members of larger consortia. However, the implementation of measures under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) also requires specific strengthening of the autonomous capacities of small local organisations in partner countries.

Objectives

The aim of the IKI Small Grants programme is to provide support for the implementation of both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by enacting the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) by addressing global biodiversity loss (Aichi Targets and post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework targets). With the IKI Small Grants programme, BMU is extending its IKI strategy and reach to small national, regional and local organisations to encourage active citizen participation and local approaches to the threats caused by climate change and biodiversity loss. They will be supported through funding for their proposed projects and will also receive support through accompanying measures to develop the capacity of their organisations. In addition,

Project proposals must clearly address one of the IKI funding areas (although in some cases project concepts may address more than one funding area):

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Adapting to the impact of climate change
  • Conserving natural carbon sinks / REDD+
  • Conserving biological diversity
Priorities

IKI explicitly encourages projects that :

  • support the implementation or increase ambition nationally determined contributions (NDC),
  • support action on the ground to contribute to the United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030
  • supporting young people's commitment
  • respond to the risks, challenges and opportunities of global megatrends (e.g. growing demand for natural resources, rapid urbanisation, digitalisation) or the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss,
  • support a just transition of economies towards decarbonisation, including equitable social change, particularly for disadvantaged groups,
  • strengthen networks, knowledge sharing and cooperation between organisations working on climate change and biodiversity issues,
  • developing and promoting the use of climate-smart technologies,
  • help raise awareness and educate people about climate change and biodiversity,
  • develop and implement economic incentives that favour the climate and biodiversity,
  • Proposals that engage in cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder cooperation, involve the local population and strengthen gender equality in society are encouraged. The project must take place in a favourable environment and produce tangible and practical results that can be replicated.
