CFA: 6th Biophilia Prize in the Human and Social Sciences of the Environment

Nominations are now open for the 6th Biophilia Awards in Environmental Humanities and Social Sciences to recognise contributions from the humanities, communication and social sciences, informed by or compatible with environmental science knowledge, that have helped shape society's perspectives, conceptual frameworks and values on the environment.

These contributions may come from a wide range of disciplines, including philosophy and ethics, history, law, literary and artistic theory, journalism and communication, anthropology, sociology and political science.

The contributions submitted can take a variety of formats, including essays, articles, monographs, legislative initiatives, multimedia material and popular science books. the preparation, editing and presentation of news reports and documentaries; the design and curation of exhibitions; and activities in all media channels (scientific journals, press, radio, television, film, documentary and the Internet).

This year's Biophilia Prize is broadening and narrowing its conceptual scope, expressly and preferentially including contributions from the humanities and social sciences that help to reframe man's relationship with nature. The aim is to recognise narratives and interpretations which, while based on or compatible with knowledge of the environmental sciences, help to shape the perspectives, conceptual frameworks and values of society as a whole with regard to the environment.

As such, the Biophilia Award will recognize contributions to understanding and the preservation of life in all its forms, including its biological and physical environment.

Preference will be given to contributions with a broad impact that have marked an important step forward in our understanding of the relationship between human beings and the environment. nature.

Price information
  • A prize of €100,000, a diploma and a commemorative work of art will be awarded.
  • If the prize is awarded to an entry made up of two or more people, the prize money will be divided equally between them.
  • La Foundation BBVA will award the prize in full to the winner(s) at a specially convened public ceremony. The prize money may be spent at the discretion of the recipients.
  • The grant will be subject to withholding tax and other taxes provided for by the legislation in force, which will be deducted from its monetary amount.
Eligibility criteria
  • Natural or legal persons of any nationality who are professionally involved in any aspect of environmental thinking, communication or culture.
  • Joint applications from two or more natural and/or legal persons who have made a collaborative contribution will be accepted.
  • Nominations may be direct, submitted by the interested parties, or indirect, with other natural or legal persons submitting letters of nomination.
