The Jana Robeyst Trust Fund (JRTF) is seeking applications for small conservation grants to provide financial resources for early-career biologists/conservationists to carry out vital conservation and field research work in Africa.
The JRTF aims to provide relatively low levels of funding for ongoing projects or pilot programmes with a clear conservation value.

Information on Conservation Trust Fund grants
Small grants will be awarded up to a maximum of €1,500.
Which projects are eligible for funding?
- The eligible project will have a clear conservation value and will be based in a sub-Saharan African country. Preference will be given to elephant-related projects. Education projects will also be considered. .
- Travel costs for presenting the project at a conference or taking part in a workshop/training programme will also be taken into account.
- Purchase of field equipment if it is essential for carrying out work in the field.
Which projects are not eligible?
- Pure research will not be funded. Research projects will be considered if they demonstrate an applied benefit to conservation and/or target an identified conservation need.
- Living expenses, salaries, thesis production costs, retrospective costs, fundraising costs and debt repayment will not be considered for funding.
- Office equipment and participation in the internship and volunteering programme will not be taken into account unless they are essential for carrying out field work or meet an identified conservation need.
Eligibility criteria for Trust Fund conservation grants
- This funding programme is open to individuals or organisations for projects in sub-Saharan Africa. They accept projects related to the conservation of mammals and in particular (forest) elephants. Applicants can be based anywhere in the world.
- Successful and unsuccessful applicants are invited to reapply 12 months after submission.
