6th round of the Fund's small grants programme (UNVTF)

Summary

The United Nations Trust Fund (UNVTF) for Victims of Trafficking in Persons has launched the sixth call for proposals (sub-grant programme 1) to provide essential humanitarian, legal and financial assistance to victims of trafficking in persons through established channels of assistance.


The UNVTF is managed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and benefits from the strategic advice and expertise of a five-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the UN Secretary-General for a three-year term. Since its creation, the UNVTF has awarded $5 million in grants to over 100 NGO projects in more than 50 countries.

Objectives

This call for proposals takes into account the importance of using all available resources to implement activities aimed at achieving the objectives of this grants programme.

The main objectives of this grant programme are as follows:

  • provide direct assistance and protection to vulnerable victims of human trafficking
  • improve health and well-being, facilitate social integration and prevent re-trafficking among vulnerable victims of human trafficking
Thematic focus and priority issues
  • The aim of this call for proposals is to provide financial support to non-profit organisations working in the field of human trafficking whose projects aim to provide immediate and essential direct assistance to vulnerable victims of human trafficking.
  • Priority will be given to projects targeting the following population groups:
    • women and girls
  • Projects targeting men and boys and people of non-binary gender will also be considered.
  • Priority will be given to projects tackling emerging and temporary crisis scenarios in the following regions:
    • Central Asia
    • Corridor from South America to Central America and Mexico.
  • Priority will be given to projects targeting people in the following situations:
    • people identified as part of large refugee and/or migrant movements, including internally displaced people in Africa and other geographical regions where conflict, post-conflict and ongoing instability caused by socio-political tensions and the fallout from climate change-related displacement.
    • persons identified as or fleeing from areas where armed conflict is taking place or has recently taken place; or where there is instability caused by a breakdown in law and order
  • Priority will be given to projects targeting the following types of operation:
    • sexual exploitation
    • forced labour
    • organ harvesting
    • forced begging
    • forced criminal activity
    • forced marriage
    • production of pornographic material
    • recruitment of children into armed groups
    • child trafficking in sport
  • Indicative activities that will be given priority include:
    • medical assistance
    • material assistance in the form of food, clothing, etc.
    • shelter immediate, safe and short-term
Information on financing
  • Proposals with budgets ranging from USD 5,000 to USD 20,000 will be considered for award.
  • All activities financed by this sub-programme must be implemented within 9 months.
Fundamental principles

Grant applicants should consider the following fundamental principles when designing their grant project proposals:

  • Partnership / collaboration / cooperation with other stakeholders;
  • Sustainability of project activities ;
  • An approach that values diversity and takes into account the particular needs of girls, boys, women, men and non-binary genders;
  • Alignment with the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime
Rental
  • This is a worldwide call for proposals.
  • Projects to be implemented in the countries of origin, transit and destination will all be considered.
Eligibility criteria
  • To be eligible for a grantcandidates must :
    • be a non-profit organisation (CSO, including NGOs, community-based organisations) registered under the relevant laws of the country where it is registered and in the country where it will implement the proposed project;
    • were registered at 31 January 2021;
    • be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project, i.e. not act as an intermediary ;
    • have at least one (1) year's previous experience in implementing activities in the field of direct assistance to victims of trafficking in persons in accordance with the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, or in providing other services to vulnerable populations, including displaced persons and forcibly displaced persons;
    • have a bank account in the name of the organisation;
    • take all appropriate measures to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse
  • Only projects that aim to achieve the objectives, focus on the priority issues and meet all other requirements are eligible for funding under this call for proposals.
    • Projects must be limited in time (have discernible start and end dates) and have a specific and finite objective that does not require additional funding to maintain the results over time. The costs, activities and beneficiaries of the proposed project must be distinct from those relating to the applicant's other operations.
