Entries are now open for the Journalism Awards to recognise the outstanding work of journalists reporting on developments in the insurance industry across Africa.
Successful applicants must demonstrate how their articles have increased awareness and understanding of developments in the (re)insurance sector.
Sponsored by Continental Reinsurance, the Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards recognise outstanding work by reinsurance journalists from across the continent. Nominees must demonstrate how their articles have increased awareness and understanding of the reinsurance industry in Africa.
The awards are an extension of Continental Reinsurance's ongoing commitment to advancing excellence in the industry. The Pan-African Re/Insurance Awards were launched in April 2015.
Reward categories
The 2021 prize categories are :
- Best printed article on reinsurance
- Best online article on reinsurance
- Best article published on reinsurance
- Best French entry in reinsurance
Participation instructions
- The submission can be either a published article - print, online or broadcast (radio/TV clip) in English, French or Arabic.
- Only one item may be entered in each category.
- Participants must be journalists based in any African country (English/French-speaking).
- The period for examining applications is 12 months up to the submission deadline.
- Articles must have been published between 1 January 2021 and 31 January 2022.
Guidelines for award recipients
- Award winners are recognised at the awards ceremony held in conjunction with an industry event and will receive a complimentary invitation to the event (health and government restrictions permitting). Travel and hotel expenses will be covered by Continental Re.
- The names and photos of the winners and the awards they have won will be published in Continental Re's literature and online channels to celebrate the winners' achievements.
- Recipients can use their prize money for their own development professional.
Process selection
- An international jury of industry experts and journalism academics will review and select the winning entries.
- The jury will assess all submissions on the basis of the quality of the information and its contribution to raising awareness of the insurance and reinsurance sector in Africa.
