The aid organisation of the Swiss Protestant churches
L'Entraide Protestante Suisse (HEKS) supports development cooperation projects in more than 30 countries on four continents in order to combat poverty and social exclusion. against poverty and injustice. It is committed to ensuring that every human being can live in dignity. HEKS also contributes to systemic change in Switzerland and abroad through its development policy work.
The organisation provides international humanitarian aid to victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. It also supports the diaconal work of the Reformed churches in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In Switzerland, HEKS defends the rights and interests of refugees and the socially disadvantaged. In its field work, the organisation promotes the principle of "self-help": it analyses the needs and resources of the people concerned and involves them in the implementation of projects.
Whether in its international activities or in its work to raise awareness of development and social policy issues in Switzerland, HEKS focuses on four thematic areas: climate justice, the right to land and food, asylum and migration, and integration.
Context and purpose of La Fondation Pain pour le Prochain
In November 2021 HEKS and its church partner organisation "Bread for All" will merge to form a single organisation, Swiss Interchurch Aid (Entraide Protestante Suisse). This merger will strengthen the position and competitiveness of the newly formed organisation in an increasingly competitive field. It will also enable it to increase the effectiveness of its development and social policy programmes and activities in Switzerland and abroad. Combining development policy and development cooperation, in particular, offers significant potential for synergies.
