"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".
Thomas SANKARA

Ockenden for the benefit of refugees or displaced persons

Entries are now open for the 2023 International Ockenden Awards to advance refugee autonomy, recognising the agency, dignity and autonomy of refugees and forced migrants - everywhere.

The Ockenden Awards Ockenden seeks to support local and/or refugee-led organisations that work directly with refugees and displaced people to advance self-reliance. Small, local organisations have the capacity to be agile, focused and highly cost-effective. However, external funding can be difficult to access and is often tied to a particular project. The experiences of refugees are varied and complex, so Ockenden seeks to enable awardees to direct the award according to their own priorities.

The awards are unrestricted grants and will be made on the basis of initiatives that promote the self-reliance of refugees and/or displaced persons, with measurable evidence of results that have led to a real improvement in the lives of refugees or displaced persons. Good financial governance will also be a factor.

Deadline: 30 November 2022

Name of donor : Ockenden International
