The West Africa Research Centre (WARA/) is seeking applications for its West Africa Research Centre Travel Grant to promote intra-African cooperation and exchange between researchers and institutions by providing support to African academics and students for research visits to other institutions and regions on the continent.
Travel bursary funds can be used for :
- attend and present papers at academic conferences held on the African continent
- visit libraries or archives located in Africa with the resources required for the candidate's academic work
- engage in collaborative work with colleagues from another African institution
- visit a research site in Africa
Funding information (West Africa Research Centre)
The MRA travel grant covers travel costs up to 1,500 $ and an allowance of 1,500 $.
Eligibility criteria
This competition is open only to West African nationals, with priority given to those affiliated to West African colleges, universities or research institutes.
Application requirements
- Summary (50-80 words) of the proposed activity with a clear statement of the objective
- Description of the project/research (maximum 6 double-spaced pages) including why the trip is necessary (must be in language that is understandable to non-specialist readers)
- Proposed budget
- Curriculum vitae (including research and teaching record)
- Photocopy of the applicant's passport (must be a West African national)
- All applications must be submitted online as PDF documents.
- All applicants must have a letter of recommendation.
- If you are attending a conference :
- a summary of the article to read
- letter of acceptance to the conference
- If you are visiting another establishment :
- invitation from the host institution
- If you are travelling to consult archives or other documents :
- a description of the collections to be consulted and their importance for the applicant's research
- If you are a graduate student :
- letter of recommendation from the professor supervising your research
