Lead2030 challenge for SDG 7

The One Young World is seeking applications for the Lead2030 challenge for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, which aims to "ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all" as global demand for energy continues to rise.

According to the latest IEA estimates, around 770 million people worldwide have no access to electricity, with some of the biggest gaps in Africa and Asia. And yet they know that providing reliable and affordable energy has significant benefits for society and sustainable development, including improvements in health and wellbeing, education and gender equality.

This Lead 2030 challenge aims to find and support innovative renewable energy solutions with the potential to significantly increase the share of renewables in the global energy mix - by welcoming solutions from young innovators who :

  • Working to improve current renewable technologies such as solar, wind and biofuels
  • are exploring new technologies to produce the renewable energies of the future
  • Increase access to and affordability of renewable energy for all developing countries, particularly the least developed countries.
Details of the Lead2030 Challenge prize for SDG 7
  • The winning solution will receive :
    • Sponsorship to attend the One Young World Summit 2022 in Manchester from 5 to 8 September
    • A USD 50,000 grant from bp
    • 12 months of mentoring by a team of bp professionals. The mentoring team will work to accelerate your solution based on the needs of your initiative or organisation, such as :
      • Corporate strategy
      • Best practices for data collection
      • Control and assessment
      • Product design
Lead2030 Challenge criteria for SDG 7
  • Lined up: Obviously aligned with the Lead2030 challenge for ODD 7 supported by bp.
  • Led by young people : Founded by a person aged between 18 and 30.
  • Concentrated : Well-structured timeframe, key stakeholders and beneficiaries identified, and reasonable, well-thought-out proposed outcomes.
  • Ready for the market : product/service already on the market or ready to be launched.
  • Impacting: the solutions must have a positive social impact, for example by creating jobs or developing skills.
  • Measurable: The The impact of the solutions must have been properly measured and/or be measurable.
  • Financially viable : Must be able to achieve efficiency and survive independently thanks to the resources they generate and/or the investments and donations they attract.
  • Upgradeable : potential to perform as well or better after expanding its scope or size and/or being transported to other regions.
