The International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) and the Swiss Society of Infectious Diseases (SSI) have jointly sponsored the SSI/ISID Research Fellowship Programme on Infectious Diseases.
Objectives
The objectives of the scholarship programme are to
- Train promising young doctors and scientists from underfunded countries for clinical and research positions in the field of infectious diseases
- Fostering partnerships between fellows and leaders in infectious diseases in Switzerland
- Increasing scientific research capacity in underfunded/high-burden countries
Benefits
- A financial allowance of up to CHF 50,000 per year (approximately USD 51,000) will be provided to fellows to cover travel and living expenses. The programme intends to award one fellowship each year.
- Training and research opportunities in a variety of areas ranging from basic studies of disease mechanism to studies in public health, epidemiology, diagnosis, therapeutics or vaccine development are available within the programme.
Duration : The duration of the scholarship is one year. The starting date will be determined by agreement between the host institution and the fellow.
Eligibility criteria
- The ISS/ISID Fellowship Programme is open to applicants aged 40 years or younger, who are citizens and permanent residents of underfunded countries or Eastern Europe. Applicants must have a medical doctorate or a PhD in a relevant field and hold a position in a medical, research or public health institution.
- Note: Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English.
- Training sites: The SSI/ISID fellow will be placed in a collaborating research centre in Zurich, Switzerland. The institution's infectious diseases programme offers experience in clinical infectious diseases, including HIV, and microbiology.
