Prizes of USD 2,000 each are available for ten deserving African graduate students in plant nutrition and crop nutrient management sciences.
The prize will be given directly to the student. No special tasks will be required of the recipient.
The award will be given independently of any grants, scholarships or other awards that the student currently holds.

Eligibility criteria
- Graduate students are eligible if they are:
- Currently attending a degree-granting institution in Africa.
- Applicants for M.Sc., M.Phil. or Ph.D. degrees, who are currently enrolled in a graduate programme at the application deadline. To be eligible, M.Sc. and M.Phil. students must be in the second year of their studies. Applicants who have already graduated are not eligible.
- Students in the disciplines of soil science, agronomy and horticultural science or tree crop science with a focus on plant nutrition are encouraged to apply.
- Previous winners of the prize are not eligible.
Requirements
- To complete the application process, you will need to submit the following in English or French:
- Electronic copy of transcripts of all academic work, including cumulative and final grades (GPA or percentile).
- Electronic copy of two letters of support, one of which must be from the main teacher. The letters must be signed and written on official letterhead and must include the telephone number and e-mail address of the author of the letter.
- A description of the subject matter of your thesis or dissertation research presented in a way that will allow an assessment of its originality, depth and scope, innovative approaches and relevance.
- A brief description of any additional information that may be relevant to the award (such as any honours or awards you have received, your work history, your career goals and other activities you are pursuing).
