"The most important thing, I think, is to have led people to have confidence in themselves, to understand that at last they can sit down and write about their development, write about their happiness and say what they want. And at the same time, to feel what the price is for happiness".
Thomas SANKARA

Priority area(s) of interest

The global agri-food techpreneur focuses on supporting young graduates to engage with the key food sustainability challenges in their countries to improve food production and distribution, end hunger, obesity and malnutrition while preventing food waste.

Their priority is to encourage the sustainable production and distribution of local food.

How does it work?
  • Each year, young graduates are invited to submit a proposal on a food system challenge in their country and their solution to address it. All qualified proposals submitted for the AgriFood TechPreneur programme will be promoted in March on World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development. All qualified AgriFood TechPreneurs will be enrolled on a 6-week interactive course on entrepreneurship, technology and sustainability in the food system starting in April and supported by RBS via the Business Builder platform. They are also working with world-class business schools around the world to ensure the course case studies are highly informative and impactful. All agri-food technopreneurs will have free access to World Food monitoring for a year to plan their farm set-up and sell their agri-food products. They are pleased to provide this incredible support to agri-food technopreneurs while offering additional benefits such as the supply of sustainable nutrients, seeds, fingerlings/fry, chicks, piglets, etc. as well as sustainable farm machinery.
  • Where appropriate, Agri-Food TechPreneurs will adjust their proposals based on the knowledge they have gained from the 6-week interactive course on Entrepreneurship, Technology and Sustainability in the Food System. The updated proposal will be shared with the panel of experts for evaluation and recommendation of support. All support available to agri-food technopreneurs will depend on the quality of their proposal, their participation in the 6-week interactive course on entrepreneurship, technology and sustainability in the food system and the support their partners can provide. These supports will be announced in June on World Sustainable Food Day; through their partnership with financial institutions, they will help agri-food TechPreneurs apply for funding to start up or develop their solution by improving their business plan based on the lessons learned from the 6-week interactive course on Entrepreneurship, Technology and Sustainability in the Food System. Where a small-scale trial is possible, they will encourage the agri-food technician to explore this as it will strengthen their business plan.
