WFP Zero Hunger Innovation Challenge

Apply to the World Food Programme (WFP) Zero Hunger Global Innovation Challenge 2022 to receive up to $100,000 in non-capital funding, mentoring and access to the world's largest humanitarian organisation.


Eradicating hunger requires bold efforts to improve the resilience of communities to external shocks and the capacities of local and national institutions to adapt to the impacts of climate change. This year's WFP Innovation Challenge seeks disruptive innovations that strengthen climate change adaptation in food systems and enable greater community resilience.

The Global Innovation Challenge prioritises projects that are designed alongside their primary users - vulnerable communities - and show initial traction and market validation to ensure impact and maximise profitability. They are looking for innovations that meet the following expectations:

  • Impact on the people they serve and potential for achieving Zero Hunger
  • Feasibility, including time to impact, technological maturity and user traction
  • Level of innovation
  • Financial viability with a clear business case that does not rely on WFP funding
  • Strength, experience and commitment of the team
What do they offer? WFP for zero hunger
 
  • Financing : Access to WFP's practical operations support network Apply to receive up to 100,000 $ in non-equity funding, with further funding dependent on progress and measurable achievement of key objectives.
  • Access to WFP operations The relevant teams will work with WFP units on the ground to develop and refine their solutions.
  • Practical support: You will have the chance to work with technical and industry mentors who will guide you and accelerate your progress. Selected projects will be eligible to apply for the MAP Sprint Programme, a six-month acceleration programme that could benefit from additional funding and support.
  • Networking : the teams will be able to leverage and exploit their strong network of public, private and government partners to accelerate implementation.
WFP eligibility criteria for zero hunger
  • If you are a start-up
    • Your start-up must be incorporated at the time of application. It may be profit-making or non-profit-making.
    • Your innovation must be at least at the minimum viable product (MVP) stage. Proof of concept and initial traction are preferred.
    • Your solution must be financially viable.
    • Your proposal should show how working with the WFP will serve your long-term strategy.
  • If you are a WFP employee
    • Your team must have proof of support from the country office and buy-in from management.
    • We encourage you to apply, whatever the type of contract or position you have.
    • They accept project applications from WFP employees working with NGOs, the government or the private sector.
