To mark the 50th anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Programme, Commonwealth Heads of Government declared 2023 a year dedicated to youth-led action for sustainable and inclusive development and called for a renewed and strengthened commitment to youth engagement and empowerment.
Of the Commonwealth's population of nearly 2.5 billion, 60 % are under the age of 30. This young demographic represents a 'dynamic youth force for change' of exceptional young people who are increasingly involved in advocacy, decision-making and action.

- First prize : The top two winners in each category will be rewarded with a trip to London for a week of educational and cultural events, culminating in a special award ceremony at a royal palace.
- Awards : All successful entries will receive a certificate of participation and a number of participants will receive gold, silver and bronze awards for writing excellence.
