Open call for young people Excel 2022 photo competition.

Are you a young agent of change between the ages of 15 and 35? Do you have photography skills? Do you want to share your photography skills with the world? USAID's Youth Excel programme is launching a 6-week global photo competition to encourage young people in Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa to share images reflecting five main themes.

Participation in the Youth Excel Photo Contest authorizes IREX, USAID and the Youth Excel program to use the winning images on the IREX website and other communication channels for IREX and Youth Excel such as social media, publications, materials and more. Other entries may also be used by Youth Excel and USAID.

Themes / Excel 2022 photo competition
  • Mental health and well-being of young people : Photos that show how your community is working to support young people's mental health
  • Young people at the forefront of economic development : Photos that show how young people in your community are helping to create jobs and employability for other young people
  • Young people and decision-makers at work: Photos featuring young people from your community working with various stakeholders to create locally-led community solutions
  • Young people make decisions based on data: Photos that highlight trends or cases of young people in your community using research and data to solve local problems
  • Gender and inclusion : Photos showing marginalised young people (disabled young people, young women and girls, religious minorities, LGBTQI+, indigenous young people, minority ethnic groups, etc.) participating positively in community development.
Prize information / Excel 2022 photo competition

The first place winner in each theme will receive a special prize worth between 200 $ and 300 $.

Eligibility criteria/ Excel 2022 photo competition
  • Young agents of change aged between 15 and 35 from Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Photos must be original submissions. The bidder must own the rights to the photo (i.e. the photo must be submitted by the photographer or with the photographer's permission and must have permission to use all identifiable people, buildings, objects, etc.).
  • Candidates are limited to five photos per entry. More than one entry is permitted.
  • Each image submitted must focus on a particular theme of the competition.
  • Photos can be taken with a camera or mobile phone.
  • Photos must be submitted in JPEG format with a minimum file size of 1 MB.
  • Tell us about your photo, including a brief description explaining the context of the photo, where and when it was taken.
  • DO NOT submit photos with watermarks, overlays or signatures.
  • The winning photos will be added to the Youth Excel photo archive and used in future communications material.
  • By submitting an application, all participants agree that their images may be used by the Youth Excel programme, including IREX, consortium partners and USAID in future communication materials. Appropriate photo credit will be given to photographers of selected images.
