Applications open for CyberGirls Fellowship 2024 (Africa)

The Cybersafe Foundation is looking for applications from people who are passionate about breaking down barriers and equipping themselves with the skills they need to start their careers in cybersecurity, improve their local communities and seize job opportunities in Africa and around the world.

CyberGirls Fellowship is a free one-year fellowship programme that enables girls and women aged 18-28 to develop globally sought-after cyber security skills, positioning them to start a career in cyber security and helping them take up decent work opportunities.

The scholarship is designed to improve the socio-economic well-being of girls in Africa through training, mentoring and job placement. Over the course of the one-year scholarship, you will receive practical training in cybersecurity, be prepared for certification and potentially benefit from paid internship/observation opportunities.

Cost covered
  • The Foundation covers visas, transport and accommodation for all mandatory face-to-face meetings abroad. Although they may provide assistance in obtaining visas for voluntary face-to-face meetings, Fellows are responsible for covering all visa costs.
The cybersecurity route
  • The learning pathway starts with the fundamentals of cyber security and then moves on to more niche cyber security learning pathways that Fellows will choose midway through the Fellowship.
    • Cloud security
    • Critical infrastructure security
    • DevSecOps
    • Digital forensics and threat intelligence
    • Governance, risk and compliance
    • Incident analysis/response (SOC level 1 analyst)
    • Vulnerability assessment and penetration testing
Eligibility criteria
  • You are eligible for the scholarship if you :
    • are a woman aged between 18 and 28 at the start of the grant (25 March 2024)
    • are a citizen or resident of an African country and passionate about (starting a career in) cyber security
    • have a good command of English and have completed secondary education
    • can withstand the pressures of intensive hands-on technical training
    • have access to the Internet and be ready to devote yourself fully to 8 months of intensive training
    • you don't have a job in cybersecurity or don't have a major cybersecurity certification that could land you one
    • do not take part in any technology grants or training camps of the same duration.
  • Please note: People living with a disability that does not prevent them from using a computer are invited to apply.
Language skills
  • The application process and training for the CyberGirls scholarship will be conducted in English. All applicants are therefore advised to learn to communicate effectively in English. Any application not submitted in English will not be eligible.
