Call for entries: The Roux Prize

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is calling for entries for the Roux Prize, which is awarded to anyone who has used health evidence in an innovative way to improve the health of the population.

They welcome a variety of applications: winners may be workers in government agencies, researchers in academic institutions, volunteers in charities or healthcare providers working in the community.

Information on funding
  • Each year, the winner receives 100,000 $ which can be invested in anything they wish. Past winners have used their winnings to fund scholarships, research or causes in their own lives.
Eligibility criteria
  • Applications from all over the world are welcome. Preference is given to individuals, but groups are eligible. Self-nominations are discouraged. Current full-time faculty, fellows or employees of the IHME and the University of Washington are not eligible.
Terms and conditions:
  • Once notified, the prize must be accepted by the winner within a period decided by the IHME and received by the winner at the Roux Prize ceremony in 2023.
  • The prize is worth USD 100,000 and is for the personal use of the recipients. An award citation and medal will also be presented.
  • If a group, rather than an individual, receives the award, the prize will be divided equally between them. Each will receive a citation and a medal.
  • The rewards are open to residents of any country without restriction as to gender, race, religion, belief or nationality.
  • All selections are final and are not subject to review or challenge.
  • The winner will be announced before the awards ceremony in 2023.

  • Candidate's personal details: title, name, qualifications, position or role, organisation, e-mail address, telephone number and physical address.
  • Nomination statement (1000 word limit): The nomination statement should express why you think this nominee deserves the Roux Award. The strongest nominations will be those that :
    • Describe the scope and relevance of the problem addressed by the candidate.
    • Describe how the applicant has used evidence to improve population health. Please include specific examples that highlight the importance of the evidence in achieving the outcome and the scale and significance of the impact on the population.
    • Describe the candidate and the context in which they carried out their work, including the obstacles or hurdles they had to overcome to achieve the result.
    • Describe any innovations in the candidate's use of evidence.
    • Describe how the prize would benefit the candidate.
    • Optional: Supporting documents. You may provide any documents that provide evidence of the applicant's achievements and in particular highlight how the applicant has used the evidence to improve population health and/or the scale and relevance of the impact of the applicant's work. These could include peer-reviewed articles, media publications, letters of support, etc. (maximum 5)
